Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell

At the head of the famous Flåm Railway in Myrdal, this hotel is only accessible by train and sits high above Aurlandsfjord. It is not located very close to Myrdal station, it's located 1,5 km from Myrdal. It's not possible to walk to the hotel wintertime due to the snow conditions. We recommend to take the train one stop down from Myrdal to Vatnahalsen station. Important to check the timetable for the trains. It takes 30 minutes to walk summertime. It's NOT possble to drive by car to Vatnahalsen hotel. The hotel offers free WiFi, a traditional restaurant, and a lounge bar with pool table and fireplace. At Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell guests are surrounded by a wild mountain landscape. There is direct access to hiking routes and fishing is possible on Reinungavatnet lake. Hotel rooms overlook the lake and mountains, and Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell has a breakfast buffet each morning. The Flåm Railway stops at the Vatnahalsen station just 50 metres from the hotel. From Flåm, 20 km down the valley, fjord cruise routes run to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nærøyfjord. The popular Rallarvegen Navvies' Road passes through Vatnahalsen. This spectacular cycling route crosses over the Hardangervidda mountain plateau and ends on the shores of Aurlandsfjord.

Nourishing location

Pros: The location is beautiful and very close to the zipline which led us to having the most amazing day of our whole Scandinavian adventure. We did the zipline followed by the bike ride then the fjord safari in Flam followed by the flamsbana back up later in the day. We used this as a way to break up the journey from Oslo to Bergen and I'm so glad we did. The hotel is quirky and homely with excellent food provision all day, you don't need anything else.

Cons: I would have welcomed a refrigerator in the room.

Pros: This is by far by biggest surprise of the year. We had such a amazing time at this hotel. It has to be a must stop during your trip to Flam. The girl at the front desk is amazing, her recommendations are the best. Also after 10 days of traveling in Norway I had the best food at this place. Hands down one of my best moments of my trip.

Good Hostel Hotel

Pros: Its location was stunning. We stayed on our way back from Flam to Bergen. The breakfast was great, staff very helpful and rooms were large with great quality hair and body soaps.

Cons: We had a double room but it wasn’t a double it was 2 single beds pushed together and 2 separate mattresses with wooden frame between the beds. The buffet dinner is only served until 8.15 pm.

Great Hotell in the Heart of the National Park with excellent breakfast

Pros: Great Location in the middle of the Mountains. Good start for several hiking or cycling routes. Plenty of warterfalls and a big lake are bearbeitet Excellent breakfast Extremly friendly staff Very early check-Inn was possible; the Equipment of the room is basic, but the Hotel offers all you need Free coffee all day

Cons: I underestimated how steep the route from Myrdal Station is. If you have more luggage than a backpack it is not recommended to walk it

Pros: The scenery of the place was great and the place represented an example of a typical mountain resort

Cons: Because I think the place is so isolated, the only option is to buy food and drink from here and prices are high

A wonderful, relaxing, comfortable, quiet and peaceful location but easily accessible from the Vatnalhasen station.

Pros: The location was excellent, only a few meters from the Vatnalhasen station, with superb views of the waterfall, lake and surroundings. The hotel was of its time, but comfortable, warm and welcoming with so many places to sit and relax. The buffet dinner was delicious and varied and the breakfast set us up for the day.

Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Iconic location along Flam train track. Beautiful natural surroundings including remnant snow patches on the mountains and waterfalls from snow melt.

Cons: Unfortunately there was major rail track by noisy heavy machinery until midnight. Unlucky. Dinner cost was 225 Norwegian kron.
