Thon Hotel Ålesund

Pros: Great hotel, comfy rooms, very busy buffet breakfast but beautifully stocked with lots of gluten-free options - allergens clearly marked. Pod coffee was available in the lobby, and we were able to fill our keep-cups for the next stage of our road trip before we left. Cool location on old port quarters, wished we had more time to explore on foot.

Cons: If you are booking for the parking, then be aware that the access in the basement parking is first-come, first-serve, and it is very, very tight. If you have an SUV or larger vehicle, or you are not super confident in parking vehicle in tight spots then this may be a bit much! We managed with our little Suzuki rental, and many-point turns and by reversing into the parking garage, around 90 degree bends and also reversing out of the garage to get out again 😄

Amazing!

Pros: I travelled for work and took my wife and 6 month old son and the hotel was perfect. The crib was so nice and perfect, plus everywhere is very accesible with babies. The location couldnt be better, with the view and proximity to everything you need in the town center

Cons: The drop off point is a bit too inconveniente because there is no real designated area to stop, but not a deal breaker!

Nice Stay

Pros: Great room with a view of sea. It was such a pleasant surprise to run into Yvonne at the front desk—the same Yvonne who introduces the hotel in such a humorous way on Rednote. Since we had an early flight, the staff thoughtfully arranged for breakfast to be ready before 4:30 a.m., so we could bring it to the airport. This thoughtful service left a very warm impression.

Pros: Anita from the front desk reception is customer service oriented. She helped me with the airport transfer. Excellent!

Smart hotel, central location, great views, lovely breakfast

Pros: The hotel is located centrally in Alesund - very convenient for all the sites and restaurants. The hotel is very smart inside. The breakfast room/restaurant has great views across the harbour. The breakfast was superb - a great choice of good food. The bed was very comfortable. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the room was a very good size.

Great location stunning view from room, lovely staff

Pros: Great location and amazing view from our room (359). Staff very friendly, welcoming and helpful, especially Yvonne (receptio) and Tatiana (bar). We arrived a day late because our flight was cancelled and we had to cancel my husband's birthday meal too as a result. Tatian appeared with a chocolate dessert for him from the kitchen - a lovely touch, thank you again!

I had not expected Alesund to be so commercialised and congested with hotels and tourists. I later found out that Alesun

Pros: The hotel is well maintained and clean with helpful staff.

Cons: The hotel is situated near the waters so it is not near bus stops.

A nice stay spoiled by chaos on first night

Pros: Location of hotel and reception staff were both great

Cons: First night - fire alarm was set off around midnight. Then turned off after around a minute. Staff’s lack of management of the situation was nothing short of shambolic ! God help anyone if there really is a fire

Lovely stay in pretty Ålesund

Pros: Great location in the centre. Large size room with really comfortable bed. The breakfast selection was excellent, lots of choice. We managed to get free parking in a road near the hotel during our stay (which was over a Sunday). Lots of good restaurants within walking distance.
