Old-time mountain lodge that takes you back in time

Pros: I was looking for a ski lodge (in the summer) with a 70s/80s vibe, and I got it. Reviewers had complained that the place sorely needed an update, but the vintage interiors (not so much deliberately 'vintage' as coincidentally the same sofas, carpets and curtains they've had for decades, or so it seemed) were part of the charm for me and exactly why I booked this place. It was like traveling back in time. At the same time, everything was clean and in perfect working condition. The lobby was large and very lively and the breakfast offerings were extensive. I was delighted to catch a glimpse of the two grey estate cats scampering across the parking lot and into the trees. The cats were also part of the reason I chose Venabu, although they are not allowed into the building itself.

Cons: The place seemed to be popular with tour groups and as such, almost every breakfast table was reserved when we went down for breakfast even though the hall was huge. It's one thing for tables to be mostly occupied, but another for them to be reserved but empty. We would have appreciated a warning to reserve our breakfast tables in advance like most guests seemed to have done. This was okay, but I was devastated that I didn't get to see more of Emil and Ida, the resident cats who lead very happy lives.

Lovely place in the mountains

Pros: A very comfortable hotel in the old style, with tea and coffee always available in the communal sitting area. Excellent food in the restaurant. Super breakfast.

Pros: The restaurant, 3 course dinner and the breakfast was very good. Easy to access from the road and interior was very cozy. Very nice stay.

Pros: das Frühstück war sehr gut und reichhaltig mit der Möglichkeit etwas für die Wanderung mit zu nehmen. Die Lage gibt freie Sicht auf das Fjell und den Rondane Nationalpark.
