Truly a gem of a historic stay in Norway‘s remoteness

Pros: We simply loved the estate, the remoteness and nature, the familial atmosphere and the cats. Can‘t recommend the Flatheim estate enough if you like peace and quiet, lovely waterfalls, hiking and having cute places to rest like a barbecue hut, a greenhouse and a small gazebo. The breakfast and dinner are both cozy with great local food in the old wood building. We really appreciated the personal touch to everything and the small curtesies like being able to dry our hiking boots in a dryer at the main house etc. A wonderful three nights overall and we will definitely be back! Can‘t recommend enough.

Pros: Cosy place to stay. Its a guesthouse not a hotel experience. There are cats running around so would avoid if you have allergy to them. Food was great.

Authentic and very unique!

Pros: The dinner was amazing good and the chef-cook as well (we recommend to book the dinner!) The nature around, the lovely equiped rooms of this historical place. A very special place to be! You fall asleep by the rush of the beautiful river. The people who work there, were very friendly and seemed to be very satisfied.

Cons: The manager was a quiet bit reserved at the beginning, he seemed to be a little bit bored, but we think, that was just our impression of his calmness and peace. Nevertheless he were very friendly and helped us in any way. We had no key to our room during the stay, that was a little bit strange, the owner wanted to repair this, at some time..., when we were out of hotel, any other guest could just walk in, that was a bit strange feeling.

Pros: The are rules, but rules are valid not just for the guests, but also for the host. So everything is fine and correct. Let me not list all the magics of ancient houses….

Lovely stay in ancient Norwegian farm house

Pros: Staying in a very old Norwegian farm house was very special. It is located adjacent to the river. Our host Siri was really friendly and served the food with humor.

Cons: Nothing .. all good

Pros: It’s a historic hotel with long family history, everything is made with love for details, has its own unique style and soul.

Pros: We were just overwhelmed by the hospitality we got from Sigurd and Heidi! You can really feel all the hard work that went into building such a unique place and Sigurd has given very interesting insights into the story of Flatheim. We enjoyed a really delicious dinner in a cozy, old hut. Especially all the different tasty local food and drinks were a highlight, and also getting to taste the Viking cheese for breakfast (gamlaost). And on top of that being located in a remote, beautiful landscape.. We couldn't have imagined a better place and would have chosen a longer stay! A really delightful stay in a simple but comfortable traditional Norwegian rural setting

Pros: A lovely, traditional style Norwegian farm in a beautiful highland setting; very relaxed; very homely; delicious food; superlatively friendly and helpful staff

Cons: Absolutely nothing. It may be a trifle simple and old fashioned for some tastes — but that is exactly what is nice about it
